Consumer Reports (CR), a non-profit organization, releases annual ratings based on vehicle tests, reliability data, owner satisfaction, and safety. Here’s a look at the bottom five brands for 2024:

5. Rivian: Promising Debut, Reliability Concerns

Rivian, the young electric vehicle (EV) brand, starts the list. While their R1S and R1T models received praise for performance, owner surveys revealed reliability concerns. Many reported major issues within weeks of purchase. One CR member even mentioned their R1T becoming unresponsive just three weeks after delivery.

4. GMC: Sierra 1500 Struggles

Following Rivian is GMC, another American manufacturer. GMC scored a total of 53 points with Consumer Reports. The Sierra 1500 pickup truck was a major concern, with owners reporting problems with noise, vibration, and harshness (NVH) and the 6.2-liter engine’s reliability.

3. Land Rover: Reliability and Service Issues

Land Rover, owned by Tata Motors, grabs the third spot with a score of 50 points. Customers reported issues with service and reliability. The Range Rover, Velar, and Evoque models were all cited for reliability concerns.

2. Jaguar: Service and Noise Complaints

Jaguar, also owned by Tata Motors, follows closely behind Land Rover with a score of 52 points. Similar to Land Rover, Jaguar customers reported service issues and reliability concerns. The F-Pace sedan received criticism for excessive noise and unresolved service problems.

1. Jeep: Reliability Woes Across the Board

Topping the “unceremonious” list is Jeep with a score of only 46 points. They took a major hit in Consumer Reports’ reliability ratings. This issue extends to India, where test drives of the Meridian revealed concerning fit and finish problems. Jeep needs significant improvement in reliability if they want to increase Indian sales.
